IMDB rating: 8.00 Plot: It is spring 480 BC, Persian King Xerxes, continuing his father Darius’ master plan to conquer the Hellenic city-states, arrives in Hellas. The previous Persian invasion and diplomatic attempts have already turned most northern Hellas tribes and states to the Persian side. But the people of Athens and Sparta, the largest Hellenic powers at the time, feel quite insulted by the Persian emissaries’ request to surrender to Xerxes, and so slay them. In Sparta, King Leonidas consults the local oracle, who gives two options: Either a spartan king will have to be sacrificed, or Sparta will be burned to the ground. A year earlier (481, BC) a Panhellenic consortium of all southern city-states had already recognized the superiority of the Spartan army (the best organized and trained army at the time) and had declared King Leonidas as supreme commander of the combined Hellenic army. It is then decided that a small force should block Xerxes’ way to southern Hellas in the Thermopylae passage. This passage was, at that time, 12 meters wide. The great historian Herodotus, possibly exaggerating, states that there were 1,700,000 Persians (their true number could have been anywhere from 100,000 to 1,000,000) against 7,000 Hellenic hoplites and slaves, including the 300 men of the Spartan King elite guard. King Xerxes waited four days for the Hellenes to be frightened and eventually surrender and was quite astonished by his opponents’ complete apathy. Xerxes tried to convince Leonidas to drop weapons, give up his position, kneel before him and live on as a local governor under Xerxes. King Leonidas replied “molon lave,” which means “Come and get them.” The three-day battle began, with the 300 Spartans and 700 Thespians (the other Hellenes where sent by Leonidas to protect passages to their flanks) slaying thousands of Persians with minimal losses. The whole Persian campaign would have failed if it hadn’t been for Efialtes, who showed Xerxes a secret passage to the Hellenic flanks. After a final battle led by King Xerxes himself, the Hellenic force was slain and their heroism and glory was written forever in history. From the beginning of the battle, the Hellenes buried their dead in the spot where they fell. Then battle signs where made for the dead of each Hellenic faction. For the Pelloponisians, (including the 300 Spartans) the sign generally read (free translation) “In this place 4,000 Pelloponisians fought 30 millions).” For the 300 Spartans (Lakaedaemonians), the sign reads (free translation) “Oh foreigner, tell the Lakaedaemonians that we are buried here obeying their laws,” meaning that they never hesitated and never retreated from the enemy. The impact of the battle was enormous for both sides. The Persians’ morale dropped to zero, and the Hellenes lost their fear for the Persian conqueror and organized their defense. After several successful battles, the Hellenes ultimately defeated the Persian army and repelled their invasion in the Battle of Plataea in 479 BC. |

How long would it take to fill a 8 lane 300,000 gallon olympic swimming pool with the average water hose from a residential house?
Your water hose probably flows about 5 gallons per minute. Assuming that flow is constant then it would take 60,000 minutes or 1,000 hours or 41.67 days.

this would be pretty simple to figure out, and may only take you a few minutes.
step one: find yourself a five gallon bucket, or any other container that has its capacity written on the side of it. Probably want something bigger than one gallon.
step two:turn on your water hose all the way
step three:time how long it takes to fill your container
step four:divide 300,000 by how many gallons your container is
step five:multiply this number by the amount of time it took to fill your container. this will give you the amount of time it would take to fill a 300,000 gallon pool with that water hose.
( this will come real close to giving you an exact amount of time, but will not be 100% accurate because of fluxuations in city water pressure, especially because it will probably take a long time to fill, and water pressure is surely going to rise and fall somewhat during that amount of time. Also, I don’t know if you are on a water meter, but if you are……wow!

A 1/2" line puts out about 5 gpm or 300 gph. That means about 1000 hours to fill the pool which equals 41 days 16 hours.

I would talk to you local Fire Dept and see if you can tap into a Fire Hydrant and it will not take nearly as long. Plus it would probley cost allot less than doing it with your water meter. and you will be able to swim sooner than 40 + days.

average home has a flow of 500 gallons per hour (600 hrs), if you really want to know then fill a five gallon bucket and time it then do the math
Heres a better solution:
- Call you local water department and ask how much the rate is have a hydrant tap put on. All cities will let you tap into the hydrant with their meter. Then you rent some 4" hose from a rental store and can have that thing full in a matter of a few hours. Then you return the hoses and call the city and the bill you for the water used. It usually if pretty affordable and is cheaper than what you reg. water bill would be (if you have one).
By the way, line size has nothing to do with gph. I have built water features with 5000 gph flowing through 1/2 line. It is the pressure that is the key.

TIME - how do you manage it in busy relationships?
so we definitely like each other. last night we were texting and i wanted him to come over and he said he only had 30 minutes of free time - which of course i was not pleased with. i should have just told him to come over anyway, but i didn’t…we ended up texting some pretty serious stuff about him not having time for anything anymore (and i am busy myself, but i always find time). i know he is a really busy guy - i totally understand that. i made the point that if you really want something that you usually can find the time…he agreed with that, but i didn’t push the "do you wanna spend time with me" card because that’s a conversation for face to face.
what would you do in this situation? i really like him and it’s not like i have any other guys knocking at the door waiting for a chance with me. i think if we could sit down and talk in person and reveal how much we do like each other that we might decide we could at least give it a try. isn’t it worth a try if the feelings are mutual? how do you make the time for someone? i don’t know how i do it, i just do.

you’re absolutely right. if someone really wants to hang out/be with someone/etc, they’ll make the time and the effort to go along with it. actions do speak louder than words and that’s what I’d pay attention to. You can meet up with him, and speak your peace but ultimately it’s how he responds to it. You can’t rush or try to put something that just isn’t meant to be. If it’s gonna happen then everything is going to come together and it will make flow. Being with someone isn’t or shouldn’t be a chore, it’s something that you just do, like second nature. Talk to him, and let him know what you want and if his actions don’t honor your wishes, move on. You did about all that you could and you know that you put it out there. Go in bracing for the worst but hopeful for the best.

Sister tattoos? any ideas?

Cops/LEO what is about being married to a cop?
People tell me all the time that being married to a cop is different from being married to a "regular joe." But I don’t see it. I know that the divorce rate is high in LE. What do you think causes these marriages to fail? What kind of woman does it take to make a successful marriage to a LEO?
The biggest thing about a relationship with a LEO is understanding. We work weird, ridiculous, long hours, overtime, and holidays. Many spouses want to hear about our day, but we just want to forget our day and that ensues into an argument because the spouse feels that they are being left out and the other is not talking to them. I’m a little different, since I (female) am the LEO, but it goes both ways. My husband worries about me getting hurt. He doesn’t like the cop get togethers because all they talk about is cop stuff and it gets boring. He hates the hours. He hates the mindset of some police officers. It’s like LEO’s have a whole separate family and spouses sometimes feel that they aren’t included. Understanding is the best advice I can give. Most veteran cops (been on the street for a while) have learned to separate work from home, which helps tremendously, but the spouse must be understanding about all the mental and physical crap we deal with every day.

Can someone give me creatine help?
I’m a 16-year old guy, about 5′10" 150 lbs….I want to bulk up and get stronger for lacrosse season. I’ve been routinely lifting Monday, Wednesday, Friday for the past month and want to start using creatine to help me get bigger. I know there are different stages of taking creatine like loading, the regular stage, and then I think there’s a stage where you don’t take it for a little…? I’m probably going to go with the Kre-Alkalyn pills. Someone please tell me how I should go about taking these to stay safe and get the best effects? Thanks.
I personally don’t know anything about taking creatine, as I have never taken it. But creatine can cause some SERIOUS problems if you don’t use it correctly. Improper use of this substance can cause bones to grow out of already existing bones, it can cause your muscles to deteriorate and it can cause serious problems with your central nervous system. If you want to get bigger, do it naturally or use protein powders or shakes. That’s just my two cents.
