For all teenagers. What do you think of my writing?
Chapter one.

The woman scurried down the street, pressing her bleeding left knee with her slender hand and stealing quick looks behind her. She knew he was following her. The lampposts at her side offered no guidance; they all stood silently, their heads fogged with dust as if they existed in a place forgotten by time.

She gasped louder as she pulled her wounded leg behind her, unable to bear it anymore. The pain surged through her lower body and blurred her eyes. She wished for a voice to offer her a temporary refuge in the ever-increasing coldness of the night, but the buildings that surrounded her were all stark and dim as the trees facing them.

After sometime, she glimpsed the light of a far store she quickened her pace towards it. Footsteps emerged behind her. Afraid to turn her eyes from the store, she struggled faster down the street, convincing herself that it was just the sound of her high heels over the asphalt; it was just an illusion.

After falling to her knees in front of the store, she called out.

How to make candle ceremony more entertaining?
What are some ways to make a sweet sixteen candle ceremony more entertaining for the guests? I don’t want people to get completely bored during this time so any creative ideas on what to do?

Play some nice classical music and people can slow dance
Trying Something New | Dec 20, 2009

There are ceremonies for sweet sixteens these days? Yeesh.

Just make it quick. People will be polite enough to handle a short ceremony. Ideally, it should be 15 minutes or less.
Libby | Dec 20, 2009

Fireworks and dancing girls?

Unless your guests have the attention span of a flea or you are having a long, drawn out "ceremony" then they will be fine. Don’t worry about entertaining them

Who is, in your opinion, the most corrupt character in 'The Pelican Brief' by John Grisham?
Is it the President? Fletcher Coal? Victor Mattiece? Or someone else?

Definitely the President - he appointed Coal so must take a lot of the blame for his actions has done nothing to distance himself from mattiece and has very seriously abused the power of his position

Jealous , Irresponsible Parents?
Hello,
I am 23, going to college. I lived away from home for 2 years and now that I am back it’s hard to live with mom and dad. I just transferred to a four year college as a full time student and got straight A’s. Ever since I started doing well they seem cold and distant. They told me I wasn’t so smart and now I’m kicking ass. Mom told me that I’m not good at math when I had much trouble with algebra in high school. Now a got a freakin A in Trigonometry. Meanwhile, they told my brother that he was a genius. He’s not going to school, and just recently smashed a re meshed relationship between us by saying that my dreams will never be realized and that I am a failure (failure my ass, I got a full year free ride, 3.5 GPA and straight A’s on my first semester.) Things are weird at home. Parents never cared about college, and barely passed psychology majors with C’s . My brother is 26 and hasn’t gone to school yet, well tried two classes and dropped. Bottom line: Every school therapist and counselor (thank god is free with education) tells me to ignore them. But they say such hurtful things daily. Mom has no job, and literally wakes up 10 minutes before I do to eye me like a hawk and say awkward, creepy , ambiguous statements. When one of them is pissed at me, they all come down on me. This is incredibly stressful and hurtful. This , financially is a great situation for me because I have no money for rent, but I am a very good student. Though they act like they hate me, they feel guilty as hell for treating me bad and start paying more and more for my living. To make things worse, I am almost done with my volunteer hours, letters of recommendation and pre reqs for grad school and they are trying to tell me I can’t make it in grad school. Why are my parents so damn jealous of me and hateful?

My dad was like that, he always told me I’d never succeed and I made sure I did. When I did he used to insult me. I started to realize in life that success was relative. Meaning I had to do it to make me happy. I had to praise myself for my achievements, and not to look at them for praise. It was a hard lesson to learn as I wanted to make them proud as no one in my family had done well. When he got old because of my success at the time, my money helped him a lot and he had mixed feelings about it. But would be glad of the money.

Perhaps your parents too are finding it hard financially too? This could also cause them to almost regret you doing well as it means they have to support you financially until you graduate etc., Do it for you, forget about them in the end you prosper and that is what counts.

Oh by Gee it's me! | Jan 12, 2010

You can choose your friends but not your family.
And that’s why most people don’t like family =/. Well, I would just ignore them too, act like they’re irrelevant. Better yet, I’d tell them they’re irrelevant flies that don’t know where to poke their noses. =D it’ll hurt their pride quite a bit, although it might not be wise.

Anyway, ignore. It’s because they’ve known you for ages. I’m sure people who knew Einstein wondered what was so special about him. They probably think there’s not so much of a difference, that they could do as well if they tried.

some people are just weird. ask them what their problem is…
Jessica | Jan 12, 2010

because they think you are so much stronger than they are and that you can take it and it just bounces off of you. they hate themselves.

if you were my son i would be out of my mind proud, beaming happy proud of you.

you are going to be wonderful, you are going to have a wonderful life. someday, take the tony robbins course, " unleash the power within" and you wont regret it. also read, the 7 habits of highly successful people, by stephen covey, and, napoleon hills keys to success, by napoleon hill. i guarantee these books. your parents are only doing the best they know how to right now. you are smarter and know better. that is a gift to you from the smart gods.

live your greatest life and your greatest happiness. to help you read this one more book, the secret code of success, i think it is called, by noah st john. it discusses exactly these things.

Cristians, please explain?
Why do these books contradict themselves in the bible? Note: this is the death and ressurection part alone. there are many more.

MT 28:1 The first visitors to the tomb were Mary Magdalene and the other Mary (two).
MK 16:1 Both of the above plus Salome (three).
LK 23:55 - 24:1, 24:10 Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and "other women" (at least five).
JN 20:1 Mary Magdalene only (one).

MT 28:1 It was toward dawn when they arrived.
MK 16:2 It was after sunrise.
LK 24:1 It was at early dawn.
JN 20:1 It was still dark

MT 28:9 On his first appearance to them, Jesus lets Mary Magdalene and the other Mary hold him by his feet.
JN 20:17 On his first appearance to Mary, Jesus forbids her to touch him since he has not yet ascended to the Father.
JN 20:27 A week later, although he has not yet ascended to the Father, Jesus tells Thomas to touch him.

during the crucifixion… the drink..
MT 27:48, LK 23:36, JN 19:29 Jesus was offered vinegar to drink.
MK 15:23 It was wine and myrrh, and he did not drink it.
JN 19:29-30 Whatever it was, he did drink it.
First day God makes light… night and day

Fourth day he makes the sun…(which makes alternations of night and day)

You should ask this question of the writers not the readers.
Former Level 7 Top Contributor | Jan 08, 2010

Bring up one point at a time and I will gladly provide an answer. God bless you.
When reading the Bible, unless you know who is doing the talking, who is listening, where they are at, what the political climate was and what Godly Covenant(set of rules)that they were under at the time you will ask these questions into perpetuity. Through almost 2,000 years of trying the skeptics have yet to find a contradiction in the bible. Yet there are countless thousands of ‘perceived’ errors that can be easily found or dreamed up. Most all are born out of simple misconceptions, confusing Covenants, not understanding the context of who is talking to whom and why and such.
Yet there are some pretty good questions that the learned atheist can ask that are legitimate. Most all of these can be answered by a Biblically savvy Christian while some require a Christian theologian to answer.
What is left are a handful of unprovable issues that the theologians cannot fully address. Yet, at the same time the burden of proof is on the Skeptic. The atheist makes assumptions and holds them up as fact and then requires the Christian offer up an answer that the skeptic would accept according to the self serving rules and definitions that the skeptic establishes.
The absence of a satisfactory answer from the Christian doesn’t equate to the Bible being in error. It can be assumed that a book written by 40 different authors over a 1,500 year period with different languages, sayings, idioms, traditions and contexts that there would be some unresolved issues 2,000 years after it was written. The onus of proof lies with the one casting the accusation. To date not a single perceived contradiction in the Bible has been proven out.

1 Corinthians 1
21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles(non Jews),

ok these are not the most important parts of what happened. most ignore stuff and hang on to what ever suits them so don’t worry to much about it
soul on fire | Jan 08, 2010

Don’t forget that Matthew and Luke contradict each other on the matter of Jesus’s genealogy. They match up from Abraham to David with only one discrepancy, then they go off in entirely different directions and never converge again until Joseph. They can’t even agree on who Joseph’s dad was.
GodotIsWaiting4U | Jan 08, 2010

Great question!

Christians don’t want to answer this question; they know how contradictory their scripture is.
Sohyb09 | Jan 08, 2010

The contradiction comes because they are all different people’s accounts of the same story. Most Christians will tell you that these details are insignificant.

How can I help my girlfriend's relationship with her mother?
(My girlfriend is 17, and I’m 18.)

I have became very concerned with my girlfriend, she is having fights with her mom very frequently, and I just need to know if there is a way I can help my girlfriend.

They both lose their temper over the simplest things. They get annoyed at eachother so easily. I think the reason is because my girlfriend doesn’t listen to her mom sometimes. She stays out when her mom wants her to stay home, and she has been out a lot over winter break.

She says that she tries to be nice to her mom and let her know that she wants to have a good relationship with her, but her mom just doesn’t care. Now my girlfriend doesn’t care either.

Who wouldn’t be concerned? Maybe their relationship will get better over time, perhaps she is just a little immature, or maybe the mom needs to see her good intentions more.

Also, should I stay out of this or can I help my girlfriend!?!?

What Disney CARTOON character would represent the sins of adultery and suicide?
I have a few ideas:
Adultery:
Jafar?

Suicide:
Hercules?

Anything else?

Maybe the bad guy from the Lion King because at the end of the movie he has a harem of female lions, lol.

And Pocohontas? But I’m not sure… suicide in Disney movies is more like martyrdom.
milena | Dec 16, 2009

well i love to know the symbolic meaning of things but i sure have to admit Disney really hides that very well . i really don’t know but maybe fantasia or princess and the frog for a quick guess will help. i only saw the end of fantasia and i thought that was not a kids movie , it was not a good example to children. but anyway try to look up stuff like the occult or illuminate maybe that will help but you will probably end up finding the symbolic meaning of music . i hope you find a correct answer .
Nadiyah | Dec 16, 2009

Adultery- definitely Judge Frollo from Hunchback of Notre Dame- the way he acts around Esmeralda is just disturbing. O.o Jafar’s a pretty close second, though.

Suicide- Zira from the Lion King II: Simba’s Pride. She was originally supposed to commit suicide, but this was edited out as it was considered "too dark" for a Disney film.
You can still find the original scene of her suicide on youtube.com. Basically she’s hanging from a cliff over a raging waterfall, and Kiara (Simba’s daughter) offers to save her. Zira angrily swats away her paw, but then she starts to slip even further. Kiara then says, "Come on. I’ll help you." Zira then looks down at the water, and then looks back at Kiara and whispers "No. Never." She then lets go and falls into the raging river, presumably to her death.

…In the released version, look carefully when she’s falling off the cliff- she’s smiling. Kinda odd for someone who didn’t want to die, huh?
